Pens unlikely to trade for rental player

Penguins GM Ray Shero insists he's comfortable with his team and if he decides to make a move, it won't be for a player in the final year of his contract.

According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Shero is in favor of completing a "hockey trade" as opposed to acquiring a rental player near the deadline.

While nothing appears to be imminent, Shero is willing to listen to what other teams have to offer.

"A lot can happen between now and then," Shero told the Tribune-Review. "But I like our team. I don't feel like we have to do something."

Speculation picked up over the Penguins' need for a top-line winger after right wing Pascal Dupuis went down with a torn ACL.

However, as the paper notes, the Penguins has started playing youngster Beau Bennett alongside Sidney Crosby and had moved Dupuis onto another line. The Tribune-Review adds that Bennett will return to Crosby's right side when he comes back from his respective injury.

A top-six forward is something the Penguins would like to land, but Shero will take his time combing through the market.

The Penguins had been linked to Winnipeg Jets sniper Evander Kane, but the Tribune-Review claims the two teams have not spoken about the 22-year-old.

It's believed the Penguins are eyeing Jets forwards Andrew Ladd and Blake Wheeler.
