According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Penguins could be in the market for a goal-scoring winger and a physical defenseman.
The Penguins have been linked to Nashville Predators defenseman Dan Hamhuis, who is in the final year of his contract and can become an unrestricted free agent July 1.
Hamhuis and the Predators have been trying to work out a contract extension, but the two sides have come up empty.
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Alexei Ponikarovsky has also attracted Pittsburgh's interest.
On defense, Carolina's Aaron Ward, Columbus' Milan Jurcina and Edmonton's Steve Staios could be targets, while Blue Jackets forward Raffi Torres is also an option.
