Penguins to pursue Beauchemin in July?

TheFourthPeriod.com

With Game 7 of the 2009 Stanley Cup Finals fresh in their minds, the Penguins might already be thinking of how to solidify next season's roster.

According to the Ottawa Sun, the Penguins would like to add a mobile, offsensive-minded defenseman this summer via free agency.

The Sun claims Anaheim Ducks defenseman Francois Beauchemin is a possible target for Pittsburgh GM Ray Shero once July 1 rolls around.

The Ducks would like to re-sign Beauchemin, but he's like to test the waters this summer.

Meanwhile, the Penguins will try to re-sign defenseman Rob Scuderi, who also becomes a UFA this July.

Scuderi, 29, made $725,000 this season and is in line for a solid raise. The Sun suggests he might sign with another team this summer.

From the Editor: The Penguins could go after a player like Beauchemin, but they should have Alex Goligoski in the lineup full time next season. Either way, Pittsburgh will have some money to play with this summer, as Miro Satan, Ruslan Fedotenko and Philippe Boucher likely won't be back next season, saving the club a lot of cash to use to sign other free agents. -- David Pagnotta.
