Penguins after Ruutu, Havlat TheFourthPeriod.com
As the Pittsburgh Penguins continue their search for a top-line winger to play alongside Sidney Crosby, their hunt appears to have focused on two Chicago players.
The Penguins are believed to be very interested in Blackhawks' forwards Tuomo Ruutu and Martin Havlat.
Sources tell TFP the Blackhawks are willing to move Havlat, only if they receive a player of equal or better talent in return.
It's believed the Penguins are willing to package Jordan Staal in a deal to Chicago in exchange for the two wingers.
The Penguins and Blackhawks have been heavily scouting one another over the past few games, a source said.
The Penguins would love to get their hands on someone like Havlat to play with Sid the Kid. If Havlat can stay healthy, he'll easily pot in 100 points a year playing on Crosby's wing. The key, of course, is if he can stay healthy. The Penguins also really like Ruutu - his brother, Jarkko, already plays for Pittsburgh. From what I've been told, however, is that the Pens are VERY high on Staal. They really like this kid and it's going to be tough for them to part with him. That said, it may be beneficial to give Staal up for a winger like Havlat, who can explode on a line with Sid.
