Penguins GM working the phone TheFourthPeriod.com
Penguins GM Ray Shero spent a good portion of yesterday's game in Tampa on his cell phone talking to other GMs from around the league, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Shero has no intentions of overpaying for a player, as he searches for a veteran defenseman, a physical depth player and a top-six forward.
The rookie GM said he hasn't come close to completing a deal, and that most of his work to date has been laying the groundwork for potential trades.
"We want to be on top of things," he told the Post-Gazette, "so that if something is there that just pops up, we want to be prepared to do it."
The Penguins are believed to be very interested in Los Angeles Kings defenseman Aaron Miller, while the team is also eyeing Phoenix's Georges Laraque, Nick Boynton and Owen Nolan.
The Penguins are expected to make at least one trade before the trade deadline and their most pressing need is to get a stay-at-home defenseman -- both Miller and Boynton make sense.
