Coyotes, Stempniak continue talking

The Phoenix Coyotes remain in contact with unrestricted free agent right wing Lee Stempniak, who scored 28 goals this past season.

Stempniak, who was traded to the Coyotes in March, is among several UFAs still unsigned.

"I mean, I'm certainly surprised," Stempniak told ESPN.com. "And not just with me, but with all the players that are out there right now, especially forwards. There's a lot of very, very good forwards that are still out there on the market. I'm just surprised by how slow it's been."

Stempniak and Coyotes GM Don Maloney both confirmed they've kept discussions open.

"He played well for us and, at the right price, we would love to have him back," Maloney told ESPN.
