Flyers deny speaking with Markov

The Philadelphia Flyers do not appear to be in contract talks with unrestricted free agent defenseman Andrei Markov after all.

Earlier this week, Tony Marinaro of TSN 690 in Montreal reported Markov was speaking with the Flyers.

That appears to be inaccurate, as Flyers GM Ron Hextall shot down the report when speaking to the Philadelphia Daily News.

"Don't believe everything you read or hear," Hextall told the paper. "I haven't talked to Andrei Markov."

Markov is looking for a two-year, $12 million contract, but could re-sign with the Montreal Canadiens on a similar-looking deal.

Hextall added that he is not overly interested in getting his team older, having expressed the same thing with regards to unrestricted free agent and former Flyer Jaromir Jagr.

In 62 games with the Habs last season, Markov registered six goals and 30 assists for 36 points.
