Hextall becoming new Flyers GM

Despite denials from current GM Paul Holmgren last week, the Philadelphia Flyers will announce that Ron Hextall is taking over as the club's new GM.

The Flyers will make the announcement at a press conference on Wednesday morning, while also naming Holmgren as President.

Hextall, who played 11 of his 13-year NHL career with the Flyers, was named Assistant GM and Director of Hockey Operations of the Flyers on July 15, 2013.

He returned to the organization after spending seven seasons as Vice President and Assistant GM with the Los Angeles Kings.

Prior to joining the Kings, Hextall spent the previous seven seasons in the Flyers front office. He became a pro scout in 1999 upon his retirement as a player, and served in that role for three seasons before being promoted to Director of Pro Player Personnel in 2002.

Holmgren was named interim GM of the Flyers on Oct. 22, 2006 before the team removed the 'interim' tag on Nov. 11, 2006.
