According to the Ottawa Sun, the Flyers have not yet started contract negotiations with Downie. It's unclear if GM Paul Holmgren plans on having discussions once Philadelphia's season comes to an end.
The native of Newmarket, Ontario, was acquired from the Colorado Avalanche on Oct. 31, 2013 in exchange for forward Max Talbot.
In 56 games with the Avalanche and Flyers so far this season, Downie has registered four goals and 20 assists for 24 points, along with 104 penalty minutes.
The Sun claims the Flyers were shopping Downie prior to the trade deadline earlier this month, which might be a clear indication of the team's plans this summer.
Regardless of where the Flyers finish this season, Holmgren is expected to tinker with his roster and could make several moves in the off-season.
