Flyers aren't rushing Mason negotiations
TheFourthPeriod.com

The Flyers would like to get goaltender Steve Mason locked up to a contract extension, but it appears negotiations haven't picked up steam just yet.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, discussions could take some time before they get serious.

"We've had some conversations," Holmgren told the newspaper. "Nothing really in-depth to this point. I don't really want to get into anything through the media. I'll just talk to (Mason's agent, Anton Thun) when the time comes to see what we can come up with."

Mason, 25, will see his one-year, $1.5 million contract expire at season's end, which will make him a restricted free agent July 1.

The native of Oakville, Ontario, wants to stay in Philly, though the Inquirer claims the Flyers might not be interested in signing Mason to a deal beyond three-years.

"I'm just very happy within this organization," Mason told the paper. "They've given me the confidence to play night-in and night-out."

"We'll see what happens. If something happens, great. If something is going to get done, I'd prefer it to be a short process, that way it's not dragging on. At the end of the day, that's not really my choice."
