The Philadelphia Flyers have locked up captain Claude Giroux to an eight-year contract extension worth $66.2 million.

Giroux, 25, registered 13 goals and 35 points for 48 points in 48 games with the Flyers this past season.

The 25-year-old, who is set to earn $5 million next season, though his annual salary cap hit is $3.75 million, will now make an average of $8.275 million per year.

The native of Hearst, Ontario, has played in 333 career NHL regular-season games and has accumulated 91 goals and 200 assists for 291 points, a plus-18 rating and 135 penalty minutes.

Giroux was originally drafted 22nd overall by the Flyers in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
