Briere staying in Germany
TheFourthPeriod.com

If the NHL lockout wipes out the entire season, Philadelphia Flyers forward Daniel Briere will remain in Germany and finish the season with the Berlin Polar Bears.

Earlier today, Briere signed a contract extension for the duration of the 2012-13 season in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga.

The 35-year-old originally inked a deal through the end of December on Oct. 4.

In 20 games with Berlin so far this season, Briere has accumulated nine goals and 24 assists for 33 points.

Flyers star Claude Giroux had also been playing for Berlin, but returned home after injuring his neck.

Giroux, 24, picked up four goals and 15 assists for 19 points in nine games with Berlin.

It's unclear if Giroux will return to Berlin if the NHL regular-season is entirely cancelled.

To date, the NHL has cancelled games through Jan. 14, though if a new CBA is not reached by then, the season will likely be nixed.
