Flyers still looking to trade

TheFourthPeriod.com

The acquisition of Chris Pronger on Friday has bolstered the Flyers' defensive corps, but the team is still looking to free up some salary cap space to solidify the rest of its roster.

It's believed the Flyers have been shopping the likes of Danny Briere, Scott Hartnell and Simon Gagne for some time. Forward Joffrey Lupul was also on the block, but he was packaged in the deal for Pronger.

The Flyers have around $5 million in available cap space, which is not enough to re-sign right wing Mike Knuble, sign a backup goalie, and acquire additional assets.

"I was surprised coming [to Anaheim] definitely," Lupul said, after being dealt back to the Ducks. "I figured something was going to happen with one of our forwards [during the draft], whether myself, Briere, Gagne or Hartnell."

Knuble becomes an unrestricted free agent July 1 and both parties are interested in signing a new contract.
