Flyers remain interested in Bouwmeester

According to the Camden Courier-Post, the Philadelphia Flyers could benefit from another top-tier defenseman and are still interested in Jay Bouwmeester.

The Florida Panthers continue to field offers for Bouwmeester, who can become an unrestricted free agent July 1.

It's believed the 25-year-old defenseman prefers to play in a more hockey-oriented environment and could be moved by the March 4 trade deadline, despite the Panthers' playoff presence.

The Flyers will likely need to package top-prospect James van Riemsdyk in a deal for Bouwmeester, and the Courier-Post suggests Flyers GM Paul Holmgren could try to add center Danny Briere.

The paper also lists a package of van Riemsdyk, Joffrey Lupul and Ryan Parent as a possibility.

If the Flyers are unable to acquire Bouwmeester, the team has other options, as the Courier-Post lists Ottawa's Filip Kuba, Toronto's Pavel Kubina, Atlanta's Niclas Havelid and the Islanders' Brendan Witt as possible candidates.

Sources tell TFP the Flyers are also interested in Tomas Kaberle of the Maple Leafs.

Last year, the Flyers almost acquired Kaberle when they offered center Jeff Carter and a first-round draft pick, but Kaberle refused to waive his no-trade clause.
