Flyers, Richards agree to 12-year extension TheFourthPeriod.com
The Philadelphia Flyers have signed center Mike Richards to a 12-year contract extension worth $69 million.
The 22-year-old will earn an average of $5.75 million per season over the length of his new contract.
Richards, who was set to become a restricted free agent in July, has registered 14 goals and 10 assists in 28 games with the Flyers this season and is on pace for almost 100 points this year.
Drafted 24th overall in 2003, Richards has accumulated 35 goals and 65 assists in 166 career NHL games with the Flyers.
Wow, talk about a monster of a contract. Richards is definitely showing the Flyers what he's made of this season, and if he keeps it up, the Flyers would have him locked him at a pretty good contract. With Richards locked up, you can expect the Flyers to turn their attention to Jeff Carter and R.J. Umberger, and signing them to long-term deals will also be a priority.
