The Ottawa Senators are going to be very active in this week leading up to the March 1 trade deadline, but there are no guarantees they make any major trades.
Senators GM Pierre Dorion told reporters Wednesday morning that he has been given the green light to go after a player, likely a forward, to help propel his team into the playoffs and compete for the Stanley Cup this season.
The Senators have plenty of salary cap space to work with, so the deciding factor will come down to the prices of some of the players available in the trade market.
Dorion is believed to have inquired about such players as Dallas Stars left wing Patrick Eaves, Detroit Red Wings left wing Thomas Vanek, Colorado Avalanche center Matt Duchene, and St. Louis Blues forward Patrik Berglund, among others.
It does not sound like the Senators are close to completing a trade, but with one week until the trade deadline, talks will change fairly rapidly.
