Sens have decisions to make on roster

The Ottawa Senators are currently debating what roster moves they need to make and would like to make this off-season, leading up to NHL Draft weekend next week.

According to the Ottawa Sun, one decision has already been made, as the club has supposedly told defenseman Patrick Wiercioch he won't be back next season.

Wiercioch is a pending restricted free agent, but the Sun claims the Senators will not present him with a qualifying offer, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Contract negotiations are ongoing between the Senators and pending RFAs Cody Ceci and Mike Hoffman, both of whom are key parts of the team's roster.

The Senators had explored the trade market on Hoffman, but the belief is that his relationship with new head coach Guy Boucher will prevent a trade from happening.

The Sun reports the blueline is the primary area of concern for the Senators, and GM Pierre Dorion will look to strengthen it this off-season either via trade or free agency.
