But that doesn't mean teams cannot talk shop during the break in action.
Senators GM Bryan Murray has been trying to acquire defenseman Michael Del Zotto from the Rangers for a good portion of the season, and it's believed the two sides have made progress in trade negotiations.
The Rangers have been active on the trade front, and GM Glen Sather has had several discussions involving a number of his players.
Del Zotto, 23, hasn't meshed well with Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault and has been a healthy scratch for several teams this season.
In 29 games for the Rangers so far this year, Del Zotto has registered two goals and five assists for seven points.
The Carolina Hurricanes, Edmonton Oilers, Colorado Avalanche and Dallas Stars have also reportedly inquired about Del Zotto.
Del Zotto was drafted 20th overall by the Rangers in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
