Corvo signs with Ottawa

The Ottawa Senators have signed unrestricted free agent defenseman Joe Corvo to a one-year, $900,000 contract.

Corvo, 36, appeared in 40 games with the Carolina Hurricanes this past season, registering six goals and 11 assists for 17 points.

The 6-1, 210-pound, native of Oak Park, Ill., played for the Senators from 2006 to 2008. He was originally signed as a free agent by the Senators on July 1, 2006.

In 689 career regular-season NHL games with Boston, Carolina, Los Angeles, Ottawa and Washington, Corvo has accumulated 89 goals and 211 assists for 300 points, in addition to 231 penalty minutes.

Corvo was Los Angeles' first fourth-round pick (83rd overall) in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.
