Karlsson done for season, Sens looking for help
TheFourthPeriod.com

Earlier today, the Ottawa Senators announced that Erik Karlsson underwent successful surgery on his left Achilles, but will miss 3-4 months of action.

Karlsson was injured in the second period of Wednesday's game against Pittsburgh when Penguins forward Matt Cooke accidentally stepped on him with his skate, cutting 70% of his Achilles.

With Karlsson out for the season, and Senators center Jason Spezza also out indefinitely, Senators GM Bryan Murray is on the hunt for some reinforcements.

Senators forwards Jared Cowen, Milan Michalek, Peter Regin, Guillaume Latendresse and prospects Mark Stone and Mike Hoffman are also injured.

Murray was looking for help prior to the Karlsson injury, but has since upped his efforts. However, he's reluctant to move some of his young talent or high draft picks.

"I've made some calls about different players," Murray said. "Nobody willing to give me a player for a player not in league yet.

"I don't want to trade our top prospect for a short-term solution. I'm also reluctant to trade our first round pick at this point."
