However, Senators GM Bryan Murray is fast realizing that how scarce the market is at this time of year, with little separation between top and bottom-feeders.
Murray would also have to give up a top prospect to get an interesting return, and the Sens might not be willing to do so. The GM remains optimistic that Spezza could be back in time for the Senators to be once again part of the playoffs.
"There's not many players available," a league executive told the Sun. "If you want one, and one becomes available, you better go snap him up quick cause the market is light."
Murray is reportedly not the only GM shopping at the market: Philadelphia Flyers GM Paul Holmgren and Washington Capitals GM George McPhee are also calling around to see what's for sale.
