Sens could go after Penner
TheFourthPeriod.com

According to the Ottawa Sun, it shouldn't come as a shock if the Senators show some interest in Los Angeles Kings pending unrestricted free agent Dustin Penner this off-season.

While the 29-year-old is expected to have to take a pay cut in the $1.5 million range, down from his current $4.25 million cap hit, he has proved that he still has some game, posting two goals and five assists in nine playoff contests.

The Senators are likely to make a pitch for Penner and take yet another chance on the winger.

Back in 2004, it was Senators GM Bryan Murray, then the GM for the Anaheim Ducks, who signed the undrafted Penner from the University of Maine to his first NHL contract.

While Penner, who only recorded seven goals and 10 assists for 17 points in 65 games during the regular season, was one of the many reasons the Kings struggled early to ultimately fired coach Terry Murray, Bryan's brother, he could be the scoring touch the Senators need at a reasonable price.

His playoff experience and success could also be a great asset to add to the Sens' locker room as the team hopes to have a longer post-season push next year.
