When the Senators were trying to trade forward Dany Heatley this past summer, they could have acquired top defenseman Brian Campbell, reports the Ottawa Sun.
According to the paper, Campbell was offered to the Senators for Heatley.
Campbell, however, has a no-trade clause and would have needed to sign off on any move Chicago tried to make.
The veteran blueliner makes $7.14 million per season.
Heatley, meanwhile, was dealt to the San Jose Sharks as part of a deal for Jonathan Cheechoo and Milan Michalek.
