TFP Editor-in-Chief David Pagnotta has confirmed that Dany Heatley has not made a decision about waiving his no-movement clause to accept a trade to the Edmonton Oilers in time to accomodate an internal deadline.
The Ottawa Senators had informed Heatley and his agents that they must accept a move by 11:59pm ET on Wednesday, or the parameters of a trade would change.
It should be noted that Heatley has not rejected a trade to the Oilers and remains interested in joing them, but simply desires more time to ponder his future.
Had Heatley accepted the move, the Senators would have dealt him to Edmonton for forwards Dustin Penner and Andrew Cogliano, and defenseman Ladislav Smid.
The Senators are now required to pay Heatley a $4 million bonus that connects to his $4 million salary for the 2009-10 season. The bonus does not reflect any achievements met in the 2008-09 campaign.
Oilers president Kevin Lowe and GM Steve Tambellini met with Heatley late Wednesday night in Kelowna, B.C. While a trade to Edmonton could still be in the works, the Senators are expected to request a higher package now that they must pay Heatley's bonus.
