Senators, Oilers talking Heatley trade?

TheFourthPeriod.com

The Ottawa Senators and Edmonton Oilers have been discussing a trade involving Dany Heatley for "a lengthy period of time," a source told TFP Tuesday evening.

Heatley, whose request for a trade became public during the Stanley Cup Finals, could be on the move within the next 24 hours, the source said.

The Senators had known of Heatley's desire to be traded during the regular-season and have been fishing for the right offers for several weeks.

The Oilers, New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues and Minnesota Wild have been among the teams heavily pursuing Heatley, and it appears a trade is close between the Senators and Edmonton.

TSN is reporting that the Senators are interested in Oilers right wing Dustin Penner, however more would have to be added in exchange for Heatley.

Heatley has a $4 million bonus that kicks in at midnight tonight, and it's uncertain if a trade will be agreed upon before then.

The Los Angeles Kings had also inquired about Heatley's services, however they no longer appear to be in the running.

From the Editor: Talks have 'heated' up over the last day regarding Heatley. The Senators are hoping to move him before tonight, but if they have to pay him the bonus, they'll want something added to the package to off-set the dollars spent. We'll be following this one quite closely. -- David Pagnotta.
