The Ottawa Senators have acquired right-wing Ryan Shannon from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for defenseman Lawrence Nycholat.

Shannon, a Stanley Cup winner with the Anaheim Ducks in 2007, enters his third NHL season. He split the 2007-08 campaign between Vancouver and its AHL Affiliate, the Manitoba Moose.

The 25-year-old Shannon recorded NHL career highs in goals (5) and points (13) in 27 games with the Canucks. He joined Vancouver on June 23, 2007, following a trade with the Anaheim Ducks for Jason King and future considerations.

Nycholat, 29, was acquired on Feb. 26, 2007, from the Washington Capitals in exchange for defenseman Andy Hedlund and Ottawa's sixth-round draft pick in 2007.

Over the last two seasons, the Calgary native has played in four games with the Senators. Nycholat appeared in 77 games for Ottawa's AHL affiliate, the Binghamton Senators, in 2007-08.

Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Minnesota Wild in 2000, Nycholat has skated in 31 career NHL games with the New York Rangers, Washington and Ottawa, recording eight points (two goals, six assists) and 12 penalty minutes.
