Senators looking at Boyle, Schneider? TheFourthPeriod.com
As rumors continue to swirl over a possible Dan Boyle trade, the Ottawa Sun reports the Senators could be a destination for the puck-moving defenseman.
The Senators are believed to be dangling Antoine Vermette and Andrej Meszaros as trade bait, however they're not alone in the case.
According to the Sun, the Atlanta Thrashers, Columbus Blue Jackets, San Jose Sharks, and Florida Panthers are also interested.
If the Senators are unable to acquire Boyle, another option is Anaheim Ducks defenseman Mathieu Schneider.
The Ducks need to trim their payroll and Schneider's believed to be on the trade block.
"I tried to make sure I was involved and had some money to spend on a variety of types of defensemen (in free agency)," Senators GM Bryan Murray told the Sun. "Obviously, everybody got considerably more money than when we started doing the gauging. I shouldn't say much, but I think Brian Campbell got in the area we thought he'd go to, but after that I thought we had a chance for a couple of other guys.
"It may be the trade route later on. Hopefully, there will be a guy out there who can play in the league and play, in particular, in an Ottawa Senators uniform."
