Del Zotto not close to new contract
TheFourthPeriod.com

According to the New York Post, the Rangers are not close to signing restricted free agent defenseman Michael Del Zotto to a new contract.

Del Zotto, 22, is coming off a three-year, entry-level contract, which paid him a base salary of $962,500, plus bonuses, per season.

The Post claims the Rangers are offering a multi-year deal worth between $2.2 million and $2.5 million per season.

In 77 games with the Rangers this past season, the Stouffville, Ontario native registered 10 goals and 31 assists for 41 points, along with a plus-20 rating.

It's believed negotiations between the Rangers and Del Zotto's representatives will pick up over the next couple of weeks.

TFP has learned that Del Zotto is expected to return to New York within the next week to begin training with some of his teammates.
