Rangers could have edge to get Doan
TheFourthPeriod.com

Larry Brooks of the New York Post has reported the absence of sniper Marian Gaborik for the first quarter of the upcoming season is the reason why the Rangers have interest in coveted free agent Shane Doan.

Although the veteran winger is adamant about staying in Phoenix, Brooks notes that Doan could have high interest in the Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Vancouver Canucks if the ownership situation remains unresolved.

It remains to be seen if Rangers GM Glen Sather will be willing to present Doan the high-priced four-year, $30 million offer he seeks.

However, Brooks believes that the 35-year-old forward could settle for a three-year contract to be reunited with Rangers coach John Tortorella.

The Blueshirts have also been a Cup contender for several seasons now which could convince Doan to move East and play with newcomer Rick Nash and star goaltender Henrik Lundqvist.
