The New York Rangers are looking for an upgrade on the blueline and appear to have set their sights on Phoenix Coyotes defenseman Derek Morris.
According to the Edmonton Journal, the Rangers are interested in Morris, but have little salary cap space to afford his salary.
It's unknown if the Rangers can move enough cap space to accommodate Morris' remaining salary.
However, Morris has expressed his interest in staying in Phoenix and the two sides are discussing a contract extension.
So far, the Coyotes have offered Morris a one-year deal, but the veteran blueliner would prefer to sign a long-term deal.
The New York Post claims the Rangers have $950,000 of cap space, which would give them enough space to sign Morris ($3.9 million annual cap hit), but next to no room for call ups later in the season.
