Rangers still an option for Avery

TheFourthPeriod.com

When Sean Avery fields offers from a number of teams on Tuesday, he'll still be keeping the New York Rangers in the back of mind, TFP has learned.

Mark Guy, who represents Avery along with Pat Morris, confirmed that the "Rangers are still in effect" in terms of his client's options for the 2008-09 season.

"He's interested to see what the market is and he wants to play in a competitive market," Guy told TFP. "His first choice is to get a deal done with New York."

Earlier today, TSN reported that the Toronto Maple Leafs are showing an interest in Avery.

While Guy would not comment on which teams may pursue Avery, he did indicate that the veteran agitator will receive plenty of interest.

"There are four to five teams that have expressed an interest in talking with us after 12 tomorrow," Guy said. "We expect to be a lot of activity on Sean."

Avery will get a lot of play, as teams would love to get the guy everyone hates. Avery might be looking for a little much, as numerous reports suggest he wants around $4 million per season and up. That being said, there's likely a team out there that will pay up for Avery, it's just a matter of where he wants to play next season.
