Clutterbuck inks 5-year, $17.5M extension

The New York Islanders have signed forward Cal Clutterbuck to a five-year, $17.5 million contract extension.

Clutterbuck, 29, has nine points (two goals, seven assists) in 25 games with the Islanders so far this season.

Last season, the native of Welland, Ontario scored 15 goals with eight assists in 77 games with the Islanders.

The Islanders acquired Clutterbuck, along with a third-round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, from the Minnesota Wild on June 30, 2013 in exchange for Nino Niederreiter.

In 597 career NHL games with the Islanders and Minnesota, Clutterbuck has 177 points (98 goals, 79 assists).

He was originally selected in the third round (72nd overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
