Islanders sign left wing Ladd

The New York Islanders have signed unrestricted free agent Andrew Ladd to a seven-year, $38.5 million contract.

Ladd, 30, collected 25 goals and 21 assists for 46 points in 78 games with the Winnipeg Jets and Chicago Blackhawks last season.

In 769 career NHL regular-season games with the Carolina Hurricanes, Blackhawks and Atlanta Thrashers/Jets, Ladd has accumulated in 210 goals and 256 assists for 466 points and 479 penalty minutes.

Ladd, a native of Maple Ridge, B.C., was drafted fourth-overall by the Hurricanes in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
