Vanek's agent, Steve Bartlett, told New York Newsday that Vanek has not closed the door on the Islanders, but stated he "has no real deadline" to inform the team that he intends to go to unrestricted free agency this summer.
Since being traded to the Islanders in October, speculation has been swirling about what's next for the 30-year-old winger. Vanek is currently in his last year of his contract and will become an unrestricted free agent as of July 1.
Vanek will be able to test the free agent market when his contract expires on June 30. It is guaranteed plenty of teams will show interest in signing Vanek, just as there are several teams interested in acquiring him, now.
The Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks, Detroit Red Wings, Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Flyers are among the teams interested in Vanek.
The winger has accumulated 19 goals and 28 assists for a total of 47 points in his run with the Islanders this season.
