Martin signs 4-year contract
TheFourthPeriod.com

With less than one hour to go before the NHL announces a lockout, the New York Islanders announced that they've signed left wing Matt Martin to a four-year contract.

Martin, 23, completed his first full season with the Islanders last year, registering seven goals and seven assists for 14 points in 80 games. He also set the NHL single season record for hits with 374.

Martin has played in a total of 153 NHL games, totaling 12 goals and 18 assists for 30 points, while accumulating 294 penalty minutes.

He was originally drafted by the Islanders in the fifth-round (148th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
