The New York Islanders have signed forward Frans Nielsen to a four-year, $11 million contract extension.
Nielsen, 27, has registered nine goals and 16 assists for 25 points in 52 games with the Islanders this season.
"We're thrilled that Frans has committed to the Islanders for the next four years," Islanders GM Garth Snow said. "He has been a key part of our young core for the past six seasons and become one of the better two-way forwards in the league."
Last year, the Herning, DK, native posted career highs in goals (13), assists (31), points (44), plus-minus rating (+13) and short-handed goals (7).
The Islanders selected Nielsen in the third round, 87th overall, of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. In 289 career NHL games, all with the Islanders, Nielsen has scored 46 goals and 99 assists with a plus-7 rating.
