Yashin considering return to Islanders TheFourthPeriod.com
Free agent center Alexei Yashin is contemplating a return to the Islanders, but his asking price might be too high, according to New York Newsday.
Yashin's agent, Mark Gandler, has pitched a one-year contract to the Islanders, and last spoke with GM Garth Snow on Thursday.
"We've had discussions," Gandler told Newsday. "But it's been very slow because I told them in the beginning how much I wanted. They're obviously not happy about that. But clearly, they missed him. They didn't have a first line last season."
Yashin spent last season with Yaroslavl of the Russian Super League and played on the left wing. He was named playoffs MVP and was named to the first-team all-star. The 35-year-old has an offer to return to Yaroslavl next season, but Yashin will need to accept it by July 1 if he wants to spend another year in Russia.
"If we can't get anything soon, we're going to take the offer with Yaroslavl," Gandler said.
The Montreal Canadiens and Minnesota Wild have also reportedly inquired about Yashin's services.
Yashin's asking price is unknown, although Gandler said it doesn't exceed $4.5 million.
The Islanders, who bought out Yashin's contract last year, are paying him $2.2 million per year over eight years.
