Greene signs five-year, $25 million contract

The New Jersey Devils have signed defenseman Andy Greene to a five-year, $25 million contract extension.

Greene, 31, has one-year left on his current four-year, $12 million contract and will earn $3.5 million next season.

"As a senior member of the Devils' defense, we consider Andy Greene one of the core players on our roster," said Devils GM Lou Lamoriello. "We look forward to Andy being with our organization on a long-term basis."

Last year, Greene finished second among the team's defensemen with 32 points, while notching a career-high eight goals and 13 powerplay points.

Greene has career totals of 28 goals and 121 assists for 149 points and 154 penalty minutes in 477 NHL games, all with New Jersey.
