Schneider signs long-term extension

The New Jersey Devils have signed goaltender Cory Schneider to a seven-year, $42 million contract extension.

Schneider, 28, was acquired from the Vancouver Canucks on June 30, 2012 in exchange for a first-round draft pick.

In 45 games with the Devils last season, Schneider posted a 16-15-12 record with a 1.97 goals-against-average, a .921 save percentage and three shutouts.

The native of Marblehead, MA, has played in 143 career NHL regular-season games with the Canucks and Devils and has a 71-41-20 record with 12 shutouts, a 2.12 goals-against-average and a .925 save percentage.

Schneider was originally drafted 26th overall by the Canucks in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
