Elias inks 3-year, $16.5M contract
The New Jersey Devils have re-signed unrestricted free agent left wing Patrik Elias to a three-year, $16.5 million contract.
Elias, a two-time Stanley Cup champion, had just wrapped up a seven-year, $42 million deal.
"To Lou, all my teammates and Devils fans, I'm excited to sign a new contract and be back with New Jersey," Elias said in a statement obtained by TFP. "This year marks my 17th year with the Devils and it's very special to be a member of one organization for my entire career. We've shared some great moments together and I look forward to working with everyone to create new ones. Go Devils!"
The 37-year-old led the Devils in scoring this past season, registering 14 goals and 22 assists for 36 points.
The native of Trebic, Czech Republic, has played in 1,090 career NHL regular-season games, all with the Devils, and has accumulated 375 goals and 555 assists for 930 points, along with a plus-191 rating and 497 penalty minutes.
He was originally drafted by Devils in the second-round (51st overall) of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.
