Fayne undergoes surgery
TheFourthPeriod.com

New Jersey Devils defenseman Mark Fayne underwent surgery to repair a ligament in his wrist last week, and is expected to be out of the lineup for up to four months.

However, the Newark Star Ledger reports that Devils GM Lou Lamoriello tendered a $610,000 qualifying offer to the 25-year-old.

"It's something that has been nagging him for quite a while. He could play with it, but we felt it was best to get it repaired 100 percent so it won't bother him again, which meant surgery," Lamoriello said. "We say 3-4 months. Who knows?

"There's always that chance (he will miss the start of the season). It's just a matter of how he heals."

In 82 games with the Devils this past season, Fayne, who played through the playoffs with the injury, tallied four goals and 13 assists for 17 points.

Lamoriello also tendered qualifying offers to defensemen Matt Corrente and forward Vladimir Zharkov.
