Devils defenseman Anton Volchenkov has spoken to Ilya Kovalchuk recently, but the Russian isn't pushing his fellow countryman to sign with New Jersey, the New York Post reports.
Volchenkov, who signed a six-year, $25.5 million contract with the Devils earlier this month, told the paper he's spoke to Kovalchuk "a couple of times."
Kovalchuk remains in the Devils' sights, but is also being pursued by the Los Angeles Times. The New York Rangers have also recently inquired about the 27-year-old's services.
Volchenkov would like Kovalchuk to sign with the Devils, but indicated that "it's not my decision."
