The New Jersey Devils today re-signed unrestricted free agent forward Brendan Shanahan to a one-year contract worth $1 million.
"Brendan Shanahan is an experienced veteran who can play in all situations, and accepts any role to help the team win," said Devils GM Lou Lamoriello. "We are delighted to have him back."
Shanahan recording six goals and eight assists for 14 points and 29 penalty minutes with the Devils last season after joining the club in January.
He has set career totals of 656 goals and 698 assists for 1,354 points and 2,489 penalty minutes in 1,524 regular-season games with New Jersey, St. Louis, Hartford, Detroit, and the NY Rangers.
Shanahan ranks 11th all-time in games played, first among active players/11th all-time in goals, tied for 49th all-time in assists, and second among active players/23rd overall in points.
The native of Mimico, Ontario, was New Jersey's first choice (second overall) in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft.
