Darche officially retires
TheFourthPeriod.com

Former Montreal Canadiens forward Mathieu Darche announced his retirement on Tuesday.

Darche, 36, announced his decision via his Twitter account on Tuesday, telling his followers, "Time to make it official! Moving on to second career," in both French and English, along with a picture of his skates hanging on hooks.

The veteran forward turned down a two-way deal the Habs offered him last June in the hopes of finding full-time NHL work with another club in the League.

The unrestricted free agent had been skating with the New Jersey Devils for the past month without a contract, but after a conversation with GM Lou Lamoriello, he decided to head back to Montreal to ponder his options.

Darche, who graduated from McGill University with a commerce degree in marketing and international business, could be looking for work in hockey management.

In 250 NHL games, Darche collected 30 goals and 42 assists for 72 points, and 58 penalty minutes.
