The Nashville Predators have acquired forward Cody McLeod from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for forward Felix Girard.
The Avalanche is absorbing 40 per cent of McLeod's remaining salary.
McLeod, 32, has appeared in 659 games over 10 NHL seasons, all with Colorado, amassing 1,359 penalty minutes and 66 goals and 51 assists for 117 points.
The Binscarth, Manitoba native has played in 28 games for the Avalanche this season and recorded one goal and 52 penalty minutes.
Originally signed by Colorado in 2006 as an undrafted free agent, McLeod has recorded eight fighting majors this season, fourth-most in the NHL. He led the League in fighting majors in 2015-16 with 12.
Girard, 22, has skated in 35 games for the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL) this season, tallying three goals and five assists for eight points.
Nashville's third selection (fourth round, 95th overall) in the 2013 NHL Draft, Girard is in his third season with Milwaukee after making his professional debut at the start of the 2014-15 campaign.
A native of Quebec City, Quebec, Girard has been assigned to the Avs' AHL affiliate.
