Volchenkov inks 1-year deal with Nashville
TheFourthPeriod.com

The Nashville Predators have signed unrestricted free agent defenseman Anton Volchenkov to a one-year, $1 million contract.

Volchenkov, 32, picked up eight assists and 20 penalty minutes in 56 games with the New Jersey Devils last season.

"Anton provides a strong veteran presence that will complement our young, talented defensive corps nicely," Predators GM David Poile said. "He is a physical, left-handed shooting defenseman who can match up with top-line forwards and effectively kill penalties."

In 650 career NHL regular-season games, the Moscow native has accumulated 19 goals and 107 assists for 126 points, along with 424 penalty minutes.

Volchenkov was originally drafted 21st overall by the Ottawa Senators in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
