"To me it's about signing the right player at the right time for the right price," Poile told the Nashville Tennessean. "We did make a significant trade last week in getting one of the NHL's top goal scorers in James Neal.
"July 1 is the starting point. In the past, we've signed free agents well past the July 1 date and there may be some other options to pursue, and we're going to continue to improve our team when the correct opportunity presents itself."
While talks between the Preds and Philadelphia Flyers about Lecavalier initially broke down, it's believed discussions have resumed.
Poile wanted the Flyers to pay a portion of Lecavalier's remaining salary, and while the team paid out a $2 million bonus today, the Predators want more.
The Tennessean suggests the Predators could be eyeing unrestricted free agent centers Mikhail Grabovski and Derek Roy.
