Rinne to replace Backstrom with Dinamo Minsk TheFourthPeriod.com
Nashville Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne has jumped on board with HC Dinamo Minsk of the KHL, replacing Minnesota Wild goalie Niklas Backstrom.
Backstrom injured himself in Finland and re-aggravated the injury practicing in Minnesota, and as a result, Dinamo Minsk terminated their agreement with him.
Rinne, 29, was set to begin the first year of his new seven-year, $49 million contract with the Predators this season.
In 73 games with the Predators last season, Rinne posted a 43-18-8 record with a 2.39 goals-against-average and a .923 save percentage.
Rinne joins teammates Patric Hornqvist (Sweden) and Roman Josi (Switzerland) to have signed overseas during the NHL lockout.
