Predators GM David Poile told the Nashville Tennessean he tried to acquire winger Alexei Ponikarovsky from the Toronto Maple Leafs this week.

Poile believed the Predators pitched a good offer to the Leafs for Ponikarovsky, who was dealt to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Predators opted not to trade defenseman Dan Hamhuis, and Poile indicated the team will focus on signing him or trading his rights in the off-season.

Hamhuis has indicated several times that he would like to re-sign with the Predators.

The Philadelphia Flyers, Vancouver Canucks, Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals were among the teams interested in Hamhuis.
