Habs sign Malhotra to one-year contract

The Montreal Canadiens have signed unrestricted free agent center Manny Malhotra to a one-year, $850,000 contract.

Malhotra, 34, registered seven goals and six assists for 13 points in 69 games with the Carolina Hurricanes last season.

The native of Mississauga, Ontario, has played in 933 career NHL regular-season games with the New York Rangers, Dallas Stars, Columbus Blue Jackets, San Jose Sharks, Vancouver Canucks and Hurricanes, and has accumulated 115 goals and 176 assists for 291 points.

Malhotra was originally drafted seventh-overall by the Rangers in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.
